The perimeter of a parallelogram ABCD = 40 cm, AB = 3x cm, BC = 2x cm and CD = 2(y +1) cm. Find the values of x and y.

Answer :

Let the parallelogram be ABCD Perimeter= 40 cm

AB =3x cm BC=2x cm (given)


Perimeter of parallelogram 2(3x+2x)=40

solving equation we get x =4 Also,

AB=CD (opposite sides of parallelogram)
3x=2(y+1) (given)

Putting x=4

3(4)=2y+1

12=2y+2

10 = 2y


Hence y= 5 and x =4
