1. The breathing cycle includes the inhaling and exhaling of air.

2. This is an alternate process or rhythmic process that involves contraction and expansion of the thoracic cavity.

Exchange of gasses:


​1. The exchange of gasses takes place continuously between the alveoli and the capillaries.

2. This process continues irrespective of inhaling and exhaling and this makes it a continuous process.
