The chemical coordination in animals takes place through the action of chemicals 'hormones'.Hormones are the chemicals which are made inside the animal body in very small amounts by cerlain glands. Hormones are released directly into the blood. They are carried by the blood circulatory system to other parts of the body.
Hormones travel all over the body but affect only particular organs at particular places. The organs which they affect are called target organs. The hormones control and coordinate serveral functions of the animal body such as growth, development, metabolism, behaviour and secondary sexual characteristics, etc.
